From the Homefront – Hard Water vs. The Dishwasher
We all know that Indiana’s water is hard. The minerals in Indiana’s water can wreak havoc on your home. Hard water creates that scummy haze on your shower. It eats away at pipes and fixtures and can be hard on your appliances as well. I initially didn’t know all of this information about hard water. You see, I didn’t grow up in Indiana. I married into the Godby clan of Hoosiers, so I knew nothing of water softeners or anything that comes with it.
When we moved into our house in Indiana, the previous owner took the water softener with them. I didn’t think much of it and my husband always made comments like, “I hate water softeners. My grandparents had them and it always made me feel like I couldn’t get clean after I took a shower. My skin felt slimy.” Those comments sort of went in one ear and out the other because I didn’t really know what he was talking about, so I didn’t really care about replacing the one that left with the previous owner. At the time, I was more worried about getting my kids down for naps than researching water softeners.
Our “new” home was built in 1977 and a lot of it was still original (lucky us), including many of the appliances. When the dishwasher gave out, we didn’t think much of it. It was old and we knew we would have to replace it sooner or later. We were offered a free dishwasher from someone who was redoing their kitchen. We decided to take it because, hey, it was free. Well, that dishwasher did not last very long either. Again, we didn’t think much of it because it was used and free. We decided to purchase a new one. We did all of the research, checked Consumer Reports and finally knew what we wanted. We had the new dishwasher installed and for a while it was great!
But then it wasn’t.
To cut to the chase, five, yes I said five, dishwashers later, and a ton of hand-washed dishes, we finally have, not only a dishwasher that works but also a water softener. Indiana’s hard water and my husband’s stubbornness had done a job on our plumbing and appliances. And honestly, I have had no issues with the water softener- no slimy skin for sure!
So… take it from the wife of a guy who has learned and changed his ways, at least when it comes to water softeners. In Indiana, YOU NEED ONE. Save your plumbing. Save your fixtures and save your appliances, because no one wants to hand wash dishes that many times, especially when there is an easy solution!
Don’t make it hard on yourself, call or text Godby today and get a water softener installed right away! Need a water softener repaired? We can repair any brand of water softener. For all of your plumbing needs, remember, It’s Gotta be Godby!
