How often should I have my hot water heater flushed/drained?
This depends on the quality of your water. Your neighborhood may have old pipes feeding sediment (sand or grit) into your daily water supply. If you have water with high mineral content, then you may have to flush the sediment from your water heater more often than other homeowners.
It is recommended that you have the sediment flushed from your water heater at least once a year. Flushing or draining the water heater cleans out the sediment that collects in the bottom of the tank and also makes your water heater run more efficiently. This is a pretty technical task. Please make sure you have a professional perform this maintenance up-keep for your home annually
