How do I reset my breaker if it has been tripped?

First, you need to find the problem before you reset the breaker. Hair dryer, curling iron and a stereo all plugged into one outlet? Old waffle maker zapped the outlet? Determine whether the circuit was overloaded by having too many things plugged in or just one faulty appliance. Once you have resolved the source of the problem, it is now safe to reset the breaker. You must flip the breaker all the way to the off position and then flip it back to the on position. The breaker switch that is no longer in the “on” or “off” position is typically the culprit breaker—your breaker box should clearly identify which breakers serve specific areas of the home.
